Actuator Protection Boot Print E-mail
Apr 01 2008

ImagePolymer Technologies (Clifton, NJ) has developed a transparent calibrated moisture boot that protects the rotating shaft and seal in the UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopter Pitch Trim Actuator, a flight control component that maneuvers and stabilizes the helicopter while in flight. During normal operation, hydraulic fuel can leak past the seal and collect in the boot. Since the boot being used is black, it is difficult to determine the amount of fluid collecting in the boot.

With the transparent calibrated boot, visual inspections can measure the amount of fluid seepage as a function of flight hours to determine the actuator’s serviceability.
